Kampala Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo has said he is working with the central government to support development in Kampala, despite political differences between the government and his National Unity Platform (NUP).
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Balimwezo said cooperation between Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and central government institutions is necessary if the city is to achieve meaningful development.
“I have to work with Government to develop KCCA. It won’t develop if I am not working with Government. It needs all of us to cooperate to bring about development,” he said.
Balimwezo pointed to the need for stronger cooperation between KCCA and government institutions, including the Ministry of Works, to address challenges affecting the capital.
His remarks come amid ongoing political differences between NUP and the central government. Some NUP supporters have previously viewed cooperation with government officials with suspicion, particularly when it is perceived as compromising the party’s political position.
Balimwezo, however, framed his approach as one focused on working with relevant institutions to deliver services and development for Kampala residents.
