Witnesses have recounted the heartbreaking moments comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere, collapsed during a school visitation before later dying at a medical facility.
Kapere had joined his wife and other parents at Jolibo Day Care and Junior School on November 1, 2026, to visit their children.
According to one parent, top-class pupils were preparing to cut a cake when the comedian suddenly dropped to his knees. His wife, who was holding a baby, reportedly panicked as those around them raised the alarm.
“We saw his wife panicking as she held her baby. We all screamed in fear,” the parent recounted.
The school director, identified only as Hajj Jolibo, reportedly approached Kapere’s wife and asked whether the comedian had any known medical condition.
A vehicle was then brought to rush him for medical attention.
The witness said Kapere was first taken to Zam Zam Clinic, where staff reportedly could not manage his condition. He was later transferred to a facility identified by the witness as Dr Sseggona’s, where he died.
A neighbour said they were unaware of any medical condition that could explain the sudden collapse. However, the neighbour claimed Kapere had previously experienced kidney and breathing problems, including a recurring light cough.
Kapere rose to fame through the comedy group Amarula Family, where he worked alongside Amooti and Messe Bontwe. His expressive facial reactions, dancing and physical comedy made him a familiar figure on stage and television.
