For years, there has been a series of continued conflict between musicians and Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) over failure to account for money collected on behalf of artistes.
In a bid to reunite and find a way forward, UPRS organised a meeting with all artistes to mutually look for the best way to handle their complaints but many top artistes like Bobi Wine and Chameleone did not show up.
Our snoops have learnt that the creation of Uganda Musicians Association( UMA) headed by Swangz Avenue's Julius Kyazze has given to hope some artistes after UPRS failing to account for the money they collect annually.
Howwe talked to one of the top musicians that shunned the meeting, he said, "According to last year’s revenue collections, the Association collected over Shs 600million but spent on Shs 69million. Where is the rest of the money? This is a clear indicator that these guys are corrupt and conmen."
The committee however held elections of the new board which is going to be headed by faded singer Dr Tee and 15 other directors on the board.
They also launched a new music app that will track the performance and airplays of each song thus keeping track of every artistes' earnings.
