Musician Eddy Kenzo has claimed that his song “Mbilo Mbilo,” featuring Nigerian singer Niniola, influenced the sound of Nigeria’s music industry and helped shape the style of Afropop music produced today.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Kenzo said the collaboration became popular in Nigeria and inspired producers to change their approach to music production.

The Big Talent Entertainment boss argued that the song introduced a sound that Nigerian musicians and producers later embraced, adding that his contribution to the country’s music scene deserves recognition.

“My ‘Mbilo Mbilo’ song changed Nigerian music. It was a big song across there, and it had a lot of influence on their industry. They changed, and it is the sound they produce until today. The song I did with Niniola changed the style, and they jumped on it. It’s the one they use until today. I have so much influence in there,” he said.

Kenzo’s remarks suggest that he believes the success of “Mbilo Mbilo” extended beyond Uganda and had a lasting impact on the Nigerian music scene.

The song, which features Niniola, brought together the Ugandan singer and one of Nigeria’s recognised female music stars, helping Kenzo reach audiences beyond his home market.

However, Kenzo’s claim that the collaboration changed Nigerian music reflects his personal assessment of the song’s influence on the industry.
