Ugandan music superstar Eddy Kenzo has shared the secrets behind his Grammy nomination, urging fellow artists to stay original and intentional with their music.
The singer, who doubles as a Presidential Advisor and President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, received a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with instrumentalist Mehran Matin on the inspirational track “Hope and Love.”
Following the announcement, Kenzo revealed he is determined to bridge the gap between Uganda and the Grammy Awards, encouraging more local musicians to aim higher.
“Don’t copy and paste because you saw it somewhere. Be original, be intentional, and always put out your thoughts because that’s what they are looking for — something new that hasn’t been anywhere,” Kenzo explained in an interview with a local TV station.
He also advised Ugandan artists to collaborate more, stressing that unity and creativity can push the industry further on the global stage.
This marks Eddy Kenzo’s second Grammy nomination, following his first in 2014 for “Gimme Love” featuring Matt B.
