Barbie Kyagulanyi, wife to the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has raised alarm over what she describes as continued harassment and illegal house arrest by security forces at their home in Magere, Wakiso District.
Through her social media platforms, Barbie revealed that she and her family have been confined for six days, with heavy military presence both inside and outside their compound. She claims the security officers have denied them privacy and blocked all attempts to bring them food.
According to Barbie, security personnel insulted her and her husband, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), and banged on their doors late at night.
“We’re not safe. Military men are inside our compound. Others are outside, all around our wall. They have infringed on our privacy for six days now. Last night, they banged our doors while insulting me and my husband.
We are hungry. They have blocked food supplies from getting to us.
WE NEED OUR FREEDOM,” she wrote.
She added that even party leaders are being blocked from accessing their home. On Monday, the NUP Secretary General was reportedly stopped while attempting to deliver food to the family.
Barbie Kyagulanyi called on authorities and human rights bodies to intervene, saying the family’s basic freedoms and rights are being violated.
