Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo has opposed plans by some artistes to form a new music federation.

A group of musicians led by Ziza Bafana and King Saha recently expressed intentions to establish an alternative body, citing dissatisfaction with Kenzo’s leadership and operations at UNMF. They accused the federation’s leadership of mismanagement and lack of transparency.

In response, Kenzo dismissed the idea, arguing that the current legal framework only allows for one national federation.

“In the music industry, we are only allowed to have one federation. I don’t know when that will be amended to allow more. As of now, the Uganda National Musicians Federation is the recognized body,” Kenzo said.

He urged the dissenting artistes, including Bafana and King Saha, to reconsider their position and return to work within the existing structure for the unity and growth of the industry.

The disagreement highlights ongoing tensions within Uganda’s music industry regarding leadership and representation.
