Musician Tracy Melon has expressed frustration over the growing use of artificial intelligence to recreate her songs, arguing that the trend undermines the hard work and creativity that artistes put into making original music.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Tracy questioned the need for people to reproduce music using AI when artistes deliberately spend time in the studio to create and record their songs.
“We put in a lot of effort to make music and they do an AI version of it. We have a reason as to why we hit the studio. Otherwise, if I didn’t want, I would’ve input lyrics into AI,” she said.
Tracy’s frustration, however, goes beyond the mere existence of AI-generated versions of her music.
According to the singer, the situation becomes even more discouraging when an AI recreation of a song attracts more attention online than the original version released by the artiste.
She believes the growing trend raises questions about how technology is affecting creativity and the value attached to authentic music in the digital era.
