Music duo Kataleya and Kandle have explained why they predominantly sing in Luganda, revealing that one of their previous English songs failed to attract the attention they had expected.
The duo said they once released Hallelujah, a song performed entirely in English, but it struggled to gain views, airplay and public attention.
“We sang a song titled Hallelujah, which was entirely in English, but it didn’t do well. It was a disappointment on our side,” Kandle said.
The musicians also reflected on an EP they released featuring several Rwandan artistes, saying the project faced challenges because they did not have enough money to promote it effectively.
“The target audience for that EP needed about billions, and we didn’t have money to push that music,” they said.
According to the duo, their intention was to use the EP to reach audiences across East Africa, but limited promotional resources made it difficult to achieve the desired reach.
Despite the setback, Kataleya and Kandle continue to build their music career, with Luganda remaining an important part of their sound and identity.
