517, 895 candidates passed 2015 primary leaving examinations compared to 2014's 516, 860 according to the results released today. Of the 621,401 candidates who registered for PLE in 2015, 478585 (77%) were from UPE schools and 142816 (23%) were from private schools.

Boys generally performed better than girls, while English, SST and CRE were best performed subjects.

Meanwhile, Results of 909 candidates have been withheld due to suspected involvement in various forms of malpractice, but the UNEB secretary Mathew Bukenya says these will be accorded a fair hearing.

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Sports Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo who officially released the results this afternoon said 19,614 pupils who registered for 2015 PLE didn't turn up calling this an alarming number.

Hon Alupo appealed to parents who wrongfully keep their children home to babysit fish and do other kinds of works to send them to school.

She also cites early marriages and pregnancy as leading reasons behind increase in school dropout rate.

Min. Alupo laso informed the country that government is giving special attention to special needs education, saying the provision of material & teachers are priorities a special budget has been allocated for special needs education.

3.18bn shillings were set aside for special needs education and UGX3.6bn earmarked for special needs education next year.
