Uganda police force has finally spoken about an unfortunate incident in which three Kampala bound buses from Juba ran into an ambush by a group of armed men at around Jabelel Village located about 120 kms from the Nimule border, along the Juba-Nimule Highway on Monday morning.

According to Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Monday 10th October 2016, at around 0800am. “The buses included a Friendship Company bus under registration number UAM 216V whose total number of passengers is yet to be established, a Gateway Company bus under registration number UAU 240S with 17 passengers on board, and an ECO Company bus under registration number SSD 154A, whose total number of passengers is also yet to be established, that was allegedly shot at and burnt to ashes.”

The Police and sister security agencies have already established contacts with its counterparts in the South Sudan as well as the Ugandan Embassy in Juba to establish the total number of passengers affected including the injured and or missing persons.

“The available information however indicates that the passengers have since been released and are being escorted by the SPLA to Nimule border point. We would also like to caution the public especially the business community about the security risks along the Juba – Nimule Highway, following these repeated incidents of attacks and ambushes.”
