Uganda police has clarified that the deputy inspector of Police, Mr. Martin Okoth- Ochola has not resigned from his position and that no such communication has been made to the appointing authority.

The clarification follows a series of media reports that Okoth had resigned, and will not seek renewal of his contract.

However, the police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi says the Deputy IGP is still in the force, warning journalists to always seek clarification before writing such stories which he says could cause confusion in the force.

Kaweesi adds that journalists who reported the story included another wrong element indicating that some junior officers are fighting for senior police offices.

“The stories are speculative, but also they create unnecessary tension and disharmony within the institution especially when you begin bringing in junior officers that they are lining up for a job of senior leaders in police. Appointments are not wished for, they are done according to the appreciation of the appointing authority” he said.

Kaweesi also clarified that the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura has not been replaced with anybody at any time. He warned that individual officers will soon seek legal redress against journalists who keep publishing such speculative stories.
