Uganda police force is still holding a young man who attacked and injured an officer and crime preventer at Kabowa station.The incident also left one person dead, from shooting.

Speaking to the media during the police weekly press conference, Emilian Kayima the police spokesperson, said the young man whose name he did not mention, attacked an officer at Kabowa with a knife for reasons still unknown.

During the attack, a crime preventer tried to restrain the man but was stubbed along with the police officer, and they were both rushed to the hospital.

The man, according to Kayima, is in custody and says he wants to die. They are yet to forward him to Butabika for a psychiatric examination.

Meanwhile, during the attack, one person was shot dead by a police officers. According to Kayima, a stray bullet hit one of the people in the crimes that were forming, and the individual died instantly.

He however denied that the killer shot was fired by a crime preventer, since they are not allowed to carry guns. Recently, the minister of internal affairs, Jeje Odong asked police to verify the work of crime preventers.

These individuals were recruited from different parts of the country, at order of former IGP, Gen. Kale Kayihura. Their fate remains unknown as MPs want them disbanded to go with the former IGP.

Asked to comment on their future, Kayima said the new police leadership will come in with own mechanism to deal with them. He however says no communication to treat crime preventers in any different manner as in the past has been received by his team.
