Residents of Awaliwal village in Anyara Sub County in Kaberamaido district are in shock after one of their own, a teacher at Anyara Secondary School in Kaberamaido killed own wife before fleeing into hiding.
Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Betty Etura who was brutally murdered by her husband Richard Eriatu.
ccording to Odongo, the couple went out to drink in a nearby trading center on Sunday night but the wife took more than her system could manage.
At around 10:00pm, Eriatu asked Etura to stop drinking and they return home but she refused and instead remained behind dancing with other men. Angrily, the husband decided to leave alone.
"Eriatu then opted to go home alone leaving the wife behind at the drinking place but when she arrived home past midnight they picked a quarrel and a scuffle ensued, Eriatu slit the throat of Etura on Sunday night and fled into hiding" Odongo explained.
Neighbors were left in shock on Monday morning when they found Etura's body lying in a pool of blood in the couple's compound while the husband was nowhere to be seen.
According to Michael Okello, the Anyara Sub county LC3 chairperson, most cases of domestic violence are a result of mistrust in families, extra marital affairs, drug abuse and alcoholism. He asks couples to open and speak about their family disputes to avoid such incidents.
