Domestic related homicides are the biggest threats even when such murders come with warning signs of violence, coercion, and threats against victims, the police have revealed.

According to CP Fred Enanga the police mouthpiece, they have tasked the Child and Family Protection officers and police at large to take interest in domestic violence situations, especially where they receive repeated calls for assistance on violence; and evaluate the danger levels especially on couples or families at the stage of separating and those driven by influence of alcohol, jealousy, threats or stalking behavior.

“We have encouraged them to thoroughly document cases of stalking or escalating violence for the attention of the office of DPP, PSAs and Judiciary (Magistrates) he advised.

Enanga added that the public who may have knowledge of someone who is experiencing domestic violence should the police toll free lines of 999,112, 0800199699 or 0800122291.
