A scandal has hit the law society after a learned fellow, city lawyer Martin Tumushabe was arrested and caged by police for allegedly stealing Uganda Shillings 50,000 from a woman’s wallet.

According to Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Tumushabe was on Monday picked up for stealing money from the wallet of a woman only identified as Sarah in a hotel in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb.

Onyango explains that the suspect tried to deny the accusations but the hotel management called in police and provided CCTV footage which showed the suspect in action.

“On reaching police he denied. He was detained because CCTV footage shows him clearly stealing and pocketing the money,” Onyango revealed.

The learned fellow has been charged with theft and his file has been sent to Resident State Attorney for perusal and sanctioning.

The suspect who is currently locked up at Kira Road police station pending the return of his file from the Resident State Attorney has been pleading to be pardoned and allow him to return the money.
