Police Masaka have in custody a man accused of hacking his father to death over family land.
Nicholas Mayanja hacked his father Herman Ssebwato on Monday night at Lwamatengo village in Nakasenyi sub-county.
Mayanja has been pestering his father for a portion of the land for over a year.
According to residents, Ssebwato asked Mayanja to give him more time to apportion the land fairly among other family members, which angered him.
He pulled out a machete and hacked his father several times on the head, neck, chest, hands and legs killing him.
Neighbors who responded to the alarm found Ssebwato’s lifeless body in a pool of blood while Mayanja had escaped to Mbiriizi town in Lwengo district.
Mayanja had been seen filing a panga on Monday afternoon, little did they know he was planning to commit a gruesome crime.
He was tracked in Mpiriizi town forcing him to flee to Mbiriizi police station.
Police recorded his statement before he also escaped from the station, which sparked a protest among the family members and residents.
Police were forced to hunt for him and re-arrested him after an hour.
According to Muhammad Nsubuga the Southern Regional Police spokesman, they are planning to take back the suspect to the scene of crime. He will later be produce him in court when investigations are concluded.
