The government and other partners have been urged to offer emergency relief to residents of Kween District following floods which displaced thousands of residents.
According to the district leaders, the persistent rains that started on Friday until Sunday displaced 800 families in the two sub-counties of Ngenge and Sundet and also destroyed 1,000 acres of planted maize, sorghum, and beans and killed livestock.
According to Joel Cherop the Secretary of LCI Ngenge Village, the affected families have sought shelter in classrooms.
One of the village health team members in Ngenge Sub County who identified herself as Betty Chelimo noted that many children are likely to fall sick of malaria since they are sleeping without mosquito nets.
Meanwhile, Joseph Wamuno a resident of Sundet sub-county lost all his seven acres of planted maize to the floods.
The Chief Administrative Officer Kween Mr Albina Awor has appealed for support from the Office of the Prime Minister and other stakeholders.
