Three people from Kyebando have pinned Patrick Kiwanuka Kagimu for the murder of lawyer Susan Alweny.

Alweny was killed with a blunt object in Kampala on the evening of October 1, 2022, and dumped in a trench in Kiwatule, a suburb of Kampala, where she was found lying unconscious and taken to Mulago Hospital. She was pronounced dead the next morning, while her attackers went away with a bag and her mobile phone.

Days after the attack, the police Flying Squad foiled a robbery in Kyebando where a thug was shot dead, another was injured and one managed to escape.
When the intelligence teams interrogated the survivor, they were tipped that Alweny was killed by one Patrick Kagimu Kiwanuka who was subsequently arrested from his hideout in Kiwatule.

While Kagimu has consistently denied killing Alweny, three of his peers and residents of Kyabando, Kawempe division, in Kampala have pinned him that he returned with the deceased’s mobile phone and other items.

One of the residents who is also a reformed criminal and now serving as an informer says that he saw Kagimu walking along the Ntinda -Kiwatule road and within a few minutes, they heard that a woman had been hit and left for dead.

“...I immediately thought of Kagimu because I had seen him a few minutes back walking at the same spot where she was hit from. I and colleagues decided to trail Kagimu and we saw him with a mobile phone and bag,” a resident said.

Kagimu since his arrest kept giving the police team contradicting statements until detectives received witnesses who have since narrated his movement from one place to another.

After getting the residents’ accounts, security used CCTVs to see whether the recorded footage marches with resident narration. Onyango said what CCTV clips have provided resonates with the witnesses’ account and Kagimu is seen at the very spot.

According to Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, the Closed-Circuit Television -CCTV cameras, have provided investigators with overwhelming evidence against Kagimu and they are sure he will successfully be prosecuted in the courts of law.
