Police have arrested a suspect linked to the gruesome killings at a daycare center in Ggaba, Kampala, as disturbing details about his background continue to emerge.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Okello Onyumu, who had reportedly just returned to Uganda after spending nearly two decades in the United States.

According to preliminary reports, Onyumu returned in November 2025 and initially stayed with his parents in Bunga before relocating to his ancestral home in Nyoya to pursue farming. He later returned to Kampala and rented an apartment in Kyanja about two weeks prior to the incident.

How the Attack Unfolded

Investigations indicate that the suspect had carefully planned the attack:

  • He first visited the daycare, posing as a parent seeking admission for a child.
  • He later paid Shs 180,000 via mobile money and purchased two large padlocks.
  • He returned under the pretense of completing the process—before allegedly launching the attack.

Police say he stabbed four children to death in the shocking incident.

Previous Allegations Surface

Authorities are also looking into claims that Onyumu may have been involved in a previous killing in 2017, where his stepbrother reportedly died under similar circumstances—though no arrest was made at the time.

Ongoing Investigations

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to uncover the motive behind the attack and whether there were warning signs that were missed.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across Kampala, raising serious concerns about child safety and security in learning institutions.

More details are expected as authorities continue with the investigation.
