The Kasangati Grade One Magistrate’s court is this morning expected to rule on whether FDC ironman Dr Kizza Besigye should remain under house arrest or be freed to continue doing his works as any other Ugandans.

The ruling stems from a case filed by Besigye through his Lawyer David Mpanga after Police laid siege at his home since February 18th to date, claiming it was just a preventive arrest.

Besigye consequently sued the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura, and the commander in charge of the siege Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

He is accused of carrying a defiance campaign throughout the presidential campaigns, and feared he would continue with the same after the February polls, something Police fears might cause violence.

On Monday, Magistrate Prossy Katushabe announced that she would issue her ruling at 10:00am this morning, and the argument of the immunity enjoyed by Gen. Kayihura and his commander Kaweesi was also dismissed, since the case was filed under the Police Act.

Besigye’s lawyers are calling for his immediate release from house arrest.

Prosecution is represented by Deputy DPP, Caroline Nabasa.
