Media personality Hatmah Nalugwa Ssekaaya has revealed that it was a long struggle for her mother to accept a Muslim man into the family.
She explained that her mother harbored much hatred for the Muslim culture and never wanted her daughters to marry Muslims.
However, Hatmah fell in love with a Muslim man who stole her heart, and she couldn't settle for anyone else but Ssekaaya. She had to seek the intervention of her grandmother, who persuaded her mother to accept the Muslim man.
"Growing up, my mom told us she never liked Muslim men and that we should never bring them home. I went through a lot trying to convince my mother to accept my man, and it actually took my grandmother's intervention to persuade my mom, who eventually accepted," she said in an interview with Sanyuka Television.
Hatmah Nalugwa is now married to Ssekaaya, and they formalized their relationship in 2008.
