Former media personality and now politician Flavia Namulidwa has likened life in the United States of America to self-imprisonment, saying the endless hustle to pay bills leaves little room for personal freedom.
Namulidwa, who spent over five years in the U.S. pursuing various jobs before returning to Uganda this year, shared her experience in an interview with a local YouTuber.
She is currently active in politics and recently contested for the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag for the Gomba East constituency.
“Being abroad is self-imprisonment. You really don’t know what’s coming next unless you choose to pack your things and leave,” she said. “Life abroad is very comfortable — you get everything on time — but you live every day by the pay cheque. You wake up by the alarm every other day because of bills and expenses.”
Despite describing the lifestyle as exhausting, Namulidwa admitted that countries like the U.S. offer better services in areas such as healthcare and education, which she says remain far ahead of those in most African nations.
