The President of the Uganda Boxing Federation, Moses Muhangi, has openly admitted that he celebrated the defeat of Asuman Basalirwa in the Bugiri Municipality MP race.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Muhangi revealed that Basalirwa was among the people who allegedly pushed for his arrest back in 2023.

Muhangi claimed that despite pleading his innocence before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Basalirwa and other MPs ganged up against him, leading to his detention at Luzira Prison.

“I was very happy when I found out that Asuman Basalirwa lost the elections. I celebrated and even slaughtered animals to mark his loss. He is very mischievous and was among the people who led me to Luzira prison, where I spent three weeks,” Muhangi said.

Muhangi was arrested in 2023 on orders of the Public Accounts Committee over allegations of forgery and uttering false documents while accounting for UGX 100 million that the boxing federation had reportedly received from government.

Although Basalirwa has since lost the parliamentary race, the bitter fallout between the two continues to spark debate, with Muhangi making it clear that he still holds deep resentment over his past ordeal.
