Former Firebase Crew member Mark Bugembe, popularly known as Buchaman, has dismissed criticism suggesting that he is unfit to serve as a Presidential Advisor.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Buchaman defended his appointment, saying it is meaningful because, as a Rastafarian, he represents the Rasta community and people from the ghetto, whose voices are rarely heard at the highest levels of leadership.
The outspoken musician explained that his main role is to advise the President on issues of inclusivity, unity and “One Love”, especially for marginalized communities.
“I am fit and able to be a presidential advisor. I am a Rasta man who is very capable of advising the President. We, the Rasta, speak truth to the President that we need one love in the ghetto,” Buchaman said.
Buchaman also spoke about the situation in Uganda’s ghettos, noting that although there are several government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, many communities still face serious challenges.
He claimed that some development programs continue to be blocked by individuals within government offices, making it difficult for progress to reach the grassroots.
“We still face challenges because most of the programs are blocked by some people in government offices,” he added.
Despite the criticism, Buchaman insists he remains committed to using his position to amplify the voices of the ghetto and push for real change.
