The National Unity Platform (NUP) has finally addressed the growing speculation surrounding the whereabouts of its party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Speaking to the media at the party headquarters on Wednesday morning, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya confirmed that the opposition leader is alive but currently facing difficult circumstances.

“I bring you greetings from our president, Robert Kyagulanyi. What I can confirm is that he is alive. None of us knows where he is, and I don’t think even the regime that claims to have good intelligence knows where he is. He is alive but not well because he does not wish to be in hiding,” Rubongoya said.

Rubongoya accused the state of creating an environment that has forced Bobi Wine into hiding, citing serious threats to his life and personal safety.

He, however, assured NUP supporters and the general public that the party president will soon come out and address the nation.

The statement comes amid unconfirmed reports circulating on social media claiming that Bobi Wine may have quietly left the country out of fear for his safety following the 2026 general elections.

NUP has maintained that Bobi Wine remains committed to the struggle and will re-emerge at the right time.
