The President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Amuriat, has accused Yusuf Nsibambi of secretly working with the ruling government long before his official defection.
This follows the move by Yusuf Nsibambi, the outgoing Mawokota South MP, who on Wednesday crossed from the opposition to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). He was received at the party secretariat by Speaker Anita Among and Secretary General Richard Todwong.
Following Nsibambi’s defection, reports surfaced alleging that he had been promised a ministerial position by President Yoweri Museveni.
Reacting to the development, Amuriat said the FDC leadership was not shocked by Nsibambi’s decision, claiming there had long been signs that he was working behind the scenes with the NRM.
“We, as FDC, are not surprised by Nsibambi's crossover to NRM, because we saw it coming. He has been a broker of President Museveni. The visit to the State House revealed signs and irregularities in his character, clearly showing that he had been planning this all along,” Amuriat explained in an interview with a local television.
Amuriat further alleged that Nsibambi had been engaging with NRM officials without the knowledge or involvement of the party, raising concerns about internal trust within the opposition.
Nsibambi, however, has maintained that his decision to join NRM was personal and based on what he described as a lack of direction and coordination within opposition politics.
