Tycoon Emmanuel Lwasa lived his entire life as a devoted Catholic until this week, when he decided to convert to Islam.

The controversial tycoon went public about his conversion on Wednesday during an interview with gossip columnist Kasuku.

Lwasa explained that he has "seen the light" in Islam and converted for his own well-being, stating that he feels it's the best religion for a man like him.

"It's a good thing, and I'm already feeling peaceful. I have seen the goodness of the Islamic faith and can testify to that," he explained during the discussion with Kasuku.

Lwasa revealed that he plans to make the pilgrimage to Mecca but will first settle his debts before fulfilling that journey.

He also explained that he has learned to give up habits that are prohibited by the Muslim faith. He is no longer attracted to alcohol and wants to settle down with only four wives.

"I've since given up alcohol, and as for the women, I'll first settle down with the few I'm allowed, as mandated in the Holy Book," he explained.

Lwasa has also taken on a new name and is now known as "Akram Kaweesa."
