Winfred Nakandi has officially announced her intention to contest for the Nakawa East Member of Parliament (MP) seat ahead of the January elections next year.
Nakandi confirmed her bid while addressing journalists on Monday morning in the Nakawa East constituency.
She explained that her aspiration for the position is focused on being a voice for the voiceless and ordinary citizens in the region, and to promote unity alongside economic transformation.
Nakandi says she is a resident of Nakawa division, who grew up in the same location and should be trusted for the leadership position. "Balimwezo is still around, and I am seeing a void which needs to be filled. I don't see anyone who can accomplish what he started. I am a citizen of this constituency, I have lived here for so many years. I was raised by you people, and I want to speak for the ordinary citizens and the voiceless," she explained.
Winfred Nakandi will face off with NUP's Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, PFF's Kabaziguruka, NRM's Fred Ruhindi, among others.
Before contesting for Nakawa East, Nakandi had earlier expressed interest in the Kampala Woman MP seat through NUP. She however dropped out of the race, citing irregularities in the vetting process, among other things.
