In September this year, musician Eddy Kenzo alongside several other artistes launched President Museveni’s music album, a project aimed at celebrating the President’s achievements and his contribution to Uganda’s development.

Kenzo explained that the album was also an appreciation gesture from musicians to the Head of State for supporting and streamlining the music industry over the years.

However, fans were quick to notice that few Kampala-based artistes were part of the project, with most contributors coming from other regions of the country.

The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president has now shed light on the matter, revealing that Kampala’s top artistes demanded huge sums of money to participate in the album — figures that were far beyond the project’s budget.

“When we were working on President Museveni’s album, we called everyone — most of the artistes in Kampala — but they were asking for large amounts of money. People were asking for 200m, 300m, 500m, and others even asked for billions. So we chose to work with regional artistes instead, and they performed better,” Kenzo explained during an interview on a local television.

Kenzo added that the project achieved its goal despite the absence of Kampala’s top stars, noting that regional artistes showcased great talent and dedication to the cause.
