Musician Sadat Mukiibi, popularly known as Kalifa Aganaga, has explained why he did not nominate to contest in the Kawempe North Member of Parliament elections scheduled for 2026.

Speaking about his decision, Aganaga revealed that his party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), resolved to back Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, citing shared opposition values and the need for unity.

According to Aganaga, Nalukoola endured multiple injustices during the by-elections held in March this year, and the party felt it was only fair to give him space to serve the people of Kawempe North without internal competition.

“There was a lot of injustice in the by-elections, especially in the way Nalukoola was treated. So we decided as a party to pull out of the race this time, give Nalukoola a chance to lead again, and we shall come back in 2031,” Aganaga explained.

The singer-turned-politician expressed confidence that his time will come, noting that he intends to contest in the 2031 general elections, where he believes he will have a stronger opportunity to lead his constituents.

It should be recalled that Kalifa Aganaga was the FDC candidate in the March 2025 by-elections, which were organized to replace the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, who died in January 2025 after battling health complications.

Aganaga’s decision has been viewed by some as a strategic political move aimed at strengthening opposition unity in Kawempe North ahead of future elections.
