Musician Wiclif Tugume, popularly known as Ykee Benda, has openly revealed that his support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is based on financial benefit rather than political ideology.
Speaking during a live TikTok session, the singer explained that he is a professional musician whose livelihood depends on performances, adding that he is paid to perform at President Museveni’s rallies across the country.
Ykee Benda noted that his appearances on the ruling NRM campaign trail are purely contractual and business-oriented.
“I support President Museveni for financial benefit. I am a musician and I earn through performances. When I perform at his rallies, I am paid for my services,” Ykee Benda said.
He further stated that he has no permanent political attachment and would equally perform for the opposition if they offered payment for his services.
“I would also perform for the red camp if they paid me. Music is my job and I go where the money is,” he added.
Ykee Benda also argued that the reason many musicians are seen performing at President Museveni’s rallies is because they are compensated, unlike in opposition camps such as the National Unity Platform (NUP).
His remarks have sparked debate online, with mixed reactions from fans and political commentators, as discussions continue around musicians, politics, and financial survival in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
