The Minister of Information and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has revealed that he formally complained to President Yoweri Museveni over the controversial social media posts made by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Speaking in an interview with Capital FM on Saturday, Baryomunsi said Muhoozi’s frequent use of Twitter (now X) has repeatedly caused confusion and contradictions, especially for government officials responsible for communicating official positions.

The minister admitted that the CDF’s tweets often make his job harder, as they trigger public debates and attract international media attention, sometimes contradicting official government communication.

“I have discussed this issue with the appointing authority, President Museveni. His tweets make my work a little bit difficult because they cause all kinds of contradictions,” Baryomunsi said.

However, the minister was quick to clarify that Gen. Muhoozi does not speak for the Government of Uganda, and urged the public not to treat his social media posts as official government statements.

“The CDF does not speak for the government of Uganda. But he likes communicating on X. Sometimes he tweets and then he deletes them, and I am sure Ugandans have formed an opinion on his tweets,” he added.

Muhoozi’s online activity has in the past sparked controversy both locally and internationally, with some of his tweets touching on sensitive political and diplomatic issues.

The latest remarks by Baryomunsi highlight growing internal discomfort within government over the impact of the CDF’s digital presence.
