Kalungu East MP-elect, Hon. Kiruluuta Yusuf Junior Nkerettanyi, has claimed that he survived an assassination attempt following the recently concluded local government elections.

According to Nkerettanyi, the incident happened at around 6:30pm as he was returning home from the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices, where he had been monitoring election activities in Lukaya Town Council.

He alleges that his vehicle was ambushed by about six armed men, wielding machetes and sticks, who surrounded his car and attempted to attack him.

Nkerettanyi claims the assailants identified themselves as aides of his former political rival, although he did not mention names.

He says he managed to escape after making a U-turn, but the attackers pursued him on boda bodas.

In a dramatic escape, Nkerettanyi says he drove into a garage, abandoned his car, and fled the scene on a boda boda.

“I miraculously escaped and I’m now safe,” he said.

The MP-elect condemned the incident, warning that turning politics into a do-or-die affair is dangerous for the country and undermines democracy.

So far, security agencies have not released an official statement regarding the alleged attack. Investigations are expected to follow.
