A heated war of words has erupted between singer Mansur Ssemanda and politician Daudi Kabanda over Uganda’s newly amended Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Bill, 2025.
The clash began after King Saha, speaking during an appearance on Spark TV, dismissed critics of his stance on the bill, suggesting that some political leaders backing it do not fully understand its contents.
However, Kabanda quickly fired back, questioning the singer’s own grasp of the law.
“Can King Saha really explain what copyright law is? Even if you give him 30 seconds, apart from making noise, he cannot explain it,” Kabanda said.
Kabanda also revealed that he had previously engaged Eddy Kenzo on social media platform X, accusing the Uganda National Musicians Federation president of misrepresenting Clause 9 of the bill.
According to the legislator, Kenzo had shared an interpretation instead of the actual legal provision.
“I told him he had posted the wrong Clause 9. I gave him the correct one—the actual provision of the bill, not the explanation,” Kabanda added.
The exchange highlights growing tensions between sections of Uganda’s creative industry and policymakers, as debates around the copyright law increasingly shift from technical discussions to personal confrontations.
