Former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs Agnes Nandutu is facing a potential 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in a high-profile corruption case.

The ruling was delivered by Anti-Corruption Court, where Justice Jane Kajuga found Nandutu guilty of diverting 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region.

“I am satisfied that the prosecution has adduced evidence beyond reasonable doubt that Nandutu received 2000 iron sheets from OPM stores in Namanve,” part of the judgment read.

Following the conviction, the court cancelled her bail and ordered her remand at Luzira Prison as she awaits sentencing.

Co-Accused Walks Free

Nandutu had been jointly charged with Amos Lugoloobi, who faced similar accusations of diverting iron sheets.

However, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, led by Jane Frances Abodo, later withdrew charges against Lugoloobi due to insufficient evidence.

What Lies Ahead

With sentencing scheduled for later this week, Nandutu now faces the possibility of a lengthy jail term, marking a significant development in Uganda’s fight against corruption.

The case has drawn widespread attention, as it highlights accountability among public officials and the handling of government resources meant for vulnerable communities.
