Edith Katende, the wife of the Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, will be laid to rest tomorrow at their ancestral grounds in Luuka District.

Despite earlier pleas to be granted bail to attend his wife’s burial, the court declined to grant Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro temporary freedom.

The magistrate at Kanyanya Court denied him bail, citing that his sureties were not reliable enough to guarantee his appearance in court if released.

The ruling has sparked backlash from members of the National Unity Platform, who believe the magistrate should have ruled in his favor given the circumstances.

Edith Katende succumbed to cancer earlier this week at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.
