Prof. Waswa Balunywa who is the Principal at Makerere University Business School, Uganda and a man who joined Makerere University Business School in 1983 as a Lecturer and later became Head of Department of Accounting and Finance in 1987 is set to resign.

According to a stament from MUBS, Prof. Waswa is said to have considered leaving his office. Here is the official statement.

After 32 years in Makerere University, Prof. Waswa Balunywa is preparing to leave as MUBS Principal

All good things have to come to an end eventually. But after 32 years with Makerere University, half of that as Dean of the then Faculty of Commerce, Makerere, and Principal of Makerere University Business School, Prof. Waswa Balunywa has decided it's time to move on.

While closing the 20th Annual International Management Conference in Kampala yesterday, September 10, 2015 Prof. Balunywa bid fare well to the conference participants he was quoted saying, " If this conference is held the same time next year, i will not be around, this is my last time i am attending the Annual international Management conference as the Principal of Makerere University Business School.

Sometime in 1987, while Uganda’s most prestigious higher institution of learning, Makerere University, was struggling to cope with shortage of resources, teaching materials and even toilet papers, a youthful lecturer in the department of commerce embarked on an ambitious adventure that the birth of Makerere University Business School.

Balunywa’s will always remembered for his deep-seated urge to transform Uganda’s higher education models from traditional bureaucracy of overreliance on government funding to mobilising resources from private students to run learning institutions – a move that sparked off a revolution in Uganda’s education sector. Balunywa is known for having revolutionalised business education and spearheading the private students’ scheme in Uganda that has become a model for many universities across the world.”
