Armed forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have arrested a Kenyan man over the deadly bombing of a church in North Kivu that claimed ten lives.

The incident that happened in Kasindi at the DRC border with Uganda also left at least 39 other people injured. The Congolese military has blamed the attack on the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

The suspect, Abdirizak Muktar Garad, 29, is a resident of Wajir County, northern Kenya, and a suspected member of ADF.

His identity was divulged by Kenya's Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) on Monday hours after the FARDC Spokesman Anthony Mualushayi revealed that a Kenyan National was being held by the forces in connection to the attack.

According to the FARDC, the terrorist attack on Sunday was perpetrated “in retaliation for the losses these terrorists have suffered in several battlefields against the FARDC.”

"It is clear that this is a terrorist act perpetrated by the ADF terrorists who have suffered casualties in several battlefields by the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo." said Mualushayi

The ADF has not yet claimed the attack. However, suspected ADF militia has been targeting large gatherings in the region.
