Media personality DJ Roja has stirred debate after coming out to criticize the current state of the Ugandan music industry, branding it “boring” despite the abundance of talent.
Through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), DJ Roja argued that while Uganda has a huge pool of gifted artistes, the industry lacks real excitement and showbiz.
According to Roja, what’s missing is healthy competition — something he says once made the industry vibrant and entertaining.
He pointed to the golden era of rivalry among the “big three” — Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, and Bobi Wine — as a time when music felt more alive and engaging.
In his post, Roja wrote:
“The Ugandan music right now is flooded with talent but missing real showbiz. We are bored. We need more healthy artist beefs like what Bobi Wine, Chameleone and Bebe Cool used to do. We saw Cindy and Sheebah do it. Competition grows the industry.”
The popular deejay believes that competition is a key ingredient in growing the music industry, arguing that it pushes artistes to work harder, release better music, and keep fans entertained.
He also cited the rivalry between Cindy Sanyu and Sheebah Karungi as a recent example that brought excitement and momentum back into the scene.
