Musician Lil Pazo has dismissed claims that local artists are making significant income from YouTube, arguing that the platform's financial returns are far smaller than many people believe.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, the singer said YouTube views may boost an artist's popularity, but they do not translate into substantial earnings for most Ugandan musicians.
"There is no Ugandan musician earning huge money on YouTube. It's there for showbiz. The money you get from it is very little. It cannot sustain a career," he partly explained.
According to Lil Pazo, musicians should not rely on YouTube as their primary source of income, saying the platform pays relatively modest amounts compared to other revenue streams.
The singer argued that live performances remain the biggest source of income for most artists and encouraged musicians to focus on securing more bookings rather than chasing YouTube views.
His remarks add to the ongoing debate over music streaming revenues, with several Ugandan artists recently questioning how much digital platforms contribute to their overall earnings.
