A 21-year-old woman has appeared in court over the alleged murder and aggravated robbery of TikTok content creator and waitress Jovia Namuwulya, whose death shocked residents of Bukoto, Kampala.
Patricia Rose Turindwamukama was arraigned before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu at City Hall Court, alongside an alleged accomplice who remains at large.
Prosecution alleges that Turindwamukama and her unidentified accomplice were involved in the death of Namuwulya on the night of August 20, 2026, at Mukalazi Zone in Kampala District.
According to the charge sheet, the two allegedly caused Namuwulya's death with malice aforethought.
Turindwamukama is also accused of stealing Namuwulya's iPhone valued at Shs2 million, clothes worth Shs200,000 and her passport.
She faces an additional charge of aggravated robbery under Sections 285 and 286(2) of the Penal Code Act.
Police Reveal Chilling Discovery
Namuwulya was found dead inside her rented room in Bukoto after relatives became worried when she stopped answering their calls.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said Namuwulya had rented the room about seven months before her death and had later invited Turindwamukama, whom police described as her friend, to stay with her.
When Namuwulya's relatives could no longer reach her, they contacted the caretaker.
The caretaker and Namuwulya's sister reportedly went to the room but found the door locked.
What they saw through the window immediately raised alarm.
“Looking through the window, they observed blood stains inside the room. They subsequently accessed the room and found her lying in a pool of blood,” Kawala said.
Police subsequently took Namuwulya's body to the City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Suspect Allegedly Fled
Police say Turindwamukama reportedly fled the scene following Namuwulya's death but was later traced and arrested.
She has now been brought before court as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
However, the charges remain allegations and Turindwamukama is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
The magistrate told her that City Hall Court does not have jurisdiction to try the murder and aggravated robbery charges and advised her to seek bail from the High Court.
Her case was adjourned to September 24 for mention.
