Musician Geosteady has pushed back against claims by Bebe Cool that concerts charging Shs20,000 for entry are unprofitable, arguing that the real financial value of such shows goes beyond ticket sales.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Geosteady explained that while the money earned from ticket sales is important, artists can make more from the bookings and performances that follow a successful concert.
"Money is given to you when staging the concert, but me personally, I look beyond that. I look at the incoming bookings and shows which come after that. It is where the profit comes from and whoever says there are no profits is just unaware," he said.
According to Geosteady, an affordable concert can serve as a platform for an artist to reconnect with fans, increase their visibility and attract more performance opportunities.
His remarks come amid an ongoing debate in Uganda's music industry over ticket prices and the profitability of concerts.
While some artists argue that low ticket prices make it difficult to cover production and organisational costs, Geosteady believes the long-term opportunities generated by such events should also be considered when measuring their success.
