Musician Kasadha John, popularly known as John Blaq, has revealed a painful truth about his early career, admitting that he no longer earns any money from the music he released under his first management.
Speaking in an interview with a local TV station, the singer disclosed that his former management team took full control of his copyrights, meaning they now collect all the royalties from his old songs.
According to John Blaq, despite those songs still generating streams and views online, he does not receive a single coin from them.
“I don’t get anything from my old music. My old management gets all the money, they receive all the royalties,” John Blaq revealed.
However, the Ebyos hitmaker insists he is not bitter about the situation, saying he currently makes much more money from the music he released after parting ways with them.
John Blaq added that his current brand and independence have worked in his favor, financially and creatively.
“I don’t care though because I earn more than them at the moment,” he added.
The singer also clarified that the only way he benefits from his old catalog is when he is booked to perform those songs live.
His revelation has sparked fresh conversations among upcoming artists about the dangers of signing bad management deals and losing control over their intellectual property.
