A cross section of opposition figures have been arrested at Makerere University as they tried to access the campus ahead of a planned fundraiser to raise 28 Billion shillings demanded by the academic staff.

The police first blocked organizer of the fundraiser Rtd.Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye from leaving his home early today morning for the event that was slated to commence at exactly 10am.

The strongman was involved in a struggle with officers who had deployed outside his home before he finally gave up but asked his followers to still show up.

However, those who showed up were all arrested and taken to Wandegeya police station, according to the head of security at Makerere University Jackson Mucunguzi.

First to be arrested was Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa who showed up demanding to access the campus as a student since the police could only allow those with student Identification cards.

He tried to put up a fight, but was silenced by no nonsense officers who claimed he had organized a team of hooligans to disorganize peace.

Moments later, Kawempe North Councilor Mohammed Segirinya showed up with a bunch of Matooke and faced the same way of arrest.

Next was FDC preacher, Doreen Nyanjura who held a cheque with an unspecified amount of money only to be arrested too. Her arrest was followed by that of at least four Makerere University students who carried with the yellow bananas they meant to sell and realize at least a few thousands of Shillings to help the cause.

FDC party mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe who showed up with a goad was arrested and taken to Wandegeya, while her animal remained behind..
