President Yoweri Museveni has ordered Uganda communications commission and its partner agencies to extend simcard registration exercise until August this year.
Museveni communicated his position last evening after an NRM caucus meeting, where some MPs appealed for more time for SIM card registration despite the passing of the earlier deadline.
“Chaired the NRM Caucus today where some MPs appealed for more time for SIM card registration despite the passing of the earlier deadline” Museveni said in a tweet.
The president then agreed to this proposal on condition that the new deadline will be respected, adding that the exercise should run until 30/8/2017.
“I've agreed to this proposal on condition that the new deadline will be respected. SIM card registration will therefore run until 30/8/2017.”
He directed the Ministry of ICT and other concerned government agencies to allow the new window, and asked Ugandans to take this exercise seriously.
