The forum for democratic change, FDC wants the inspector general of police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura to immediately replace senior police officers implicated in the kidnapping of President Paul Kagame’s body guard.

The officers, Commandant of Police Professional Standard Unit, Senior Commissioner of Police Joel Aguma; Senior Superintendent of Police Nixon Agasirwe; former commander of Police Special Operations, Sgt Abel Tumukunde under the Flying Squad; Assistant Superintendent of Police Magada under Crime Intelligence; and Faisal Katende under the Flying Squad were last week arraigned before the militarycourt martial in Makindye.

Including Rwandans and Congolese nationals the suspects were Friday charged with conspiracy with Rwanda to kidnap Lt Joel Mutabazi in Uganda in 2013, who was handed over to his home government which sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Now, Paul Mwiru, the deputy FDC publicist says its ironical that police has barely issued a statement on the issue, neither has the IGP acted on behalf of the force. Mwiru adds that according to the public service standing orders, if someone is charged of an offence, he/she is relieved of their duties.

“Ever since these police officers were arrested and charged, we would have expected to hear either a radio call message or a press statement from the office of the IGP announcing from today onwards, so and so has been replaced by another person” Mwiru said.
He added that the development confirms president Museveni’s words at Kaweesi’s vigil in Kulambilo, that some killings are inside jobs by bad cops.
