Musician Joshua Baraka has dismissed claims that he is selfish with his international connections, insisting that he is willing to share information and contacts with fellow artistes who are serious about taking their music beyond Uganda.
The singer, who has been working to expand his presence on the international music scene, has faced criticism from some local artistes who accuse him of keeping valuable industry contacts to himself.
Responding to the claims, Baraka said he has never deliberately withheld information from anyone. However, he believes some Ugandan musicians expect opportunities to come easily instead of putting in the work required to achieve international success.
“I have never refused to share anything, information or what, but no one wants to reach out. I feel like some people want things on a silver platter. They want free things and have no focus on achieving them,” he partly said.
Baraka added that he would be more willing to share contacts and industry information with upcoming artistes who demonstrate determination to break into international markets than established musicians who, in his view, lack clear ambitions.
