Organizers of 2018 Rotary Cancer Run are are putting final touches to the preparations for the August 26 run at Kololo ceremonial grounds.
The event is targeting over 30,000 participants in the impending 2018 Rotary Cancer Run, with hope of raising enough funds to purchase two modern radiotherapy machines.
The funds from the run are intended to import the high tech cancer treatment machines and hand them to the Cancer Center at Nsambya Hospital.
“As the Rotary club of Uganda, we zeroed in on the Linear Accelerator because it is the most modern radiotherapy equipment and does not have many negative after effects,” Stephen Mwanje, the chairperson of the run said.
“We have been able to build a 36-bed cancer treatment centre at Nsambya Hospital worth Shs 1.5 billion, which is operational now. This money came from the first three runs (2012 – 2014), support from corporate organisations led by Centenary Bank (Shs240m over three years), Pepsi, Hima cement, National Housing and many others plus individual Rotarians. We also managed to fit the centre with equipment worth over $150, 000 that we acquired through two Global Grants,” continued to state.
