Western Uganda-based singer Ray G has urged fellow musicians to educate themselves about how music streaming platforms operate before criticizing the income they receive.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, the singer said many artists complain about streaming royalties without fully understanding how payments are calculated and distributed.
According to Ray G, musicians should first learn how much different platforms pay, when royalties are processed, and the channels through which payments are made before concluding that they are being underpaid.
"We need to get information first—what they pay, what period they pay for, and where the payments come from. Let's first gather the information because sometimes we think there's something we're missing. If we understand everything inside and out, then we'll know whether we're being paid fairly," he explained.
Ray G argued that a better understanding of streaming systems would help artists make informed decisions about their music careers and avoid unnecessary speculation over royalties.
He encouraged musicians to invest time in learning the business side of the industry, saying knowledge is essential for anyone hoping to maximize earnings from digital platforms.
